Using different names. Back there, there were no real checks-and-balances to see if an individual was using valid identification and credentials, like social security numbers. To this day we aren’t even positive what his true name was. It may have been William Rex Cole, but I’ve also heard that it might have been Joseph Vance Randall. Bill Cole was definitely an alias though.
