Thank you, Joni. He was certainly savvy enough to know that his statements at trial would have an impact and that he was speaking to larger issues and dissatisfactions that most people have. He was, in fact, insulated from normal experiences in many ways during the 2.5 years he spent out of prison. No doubt he experienced terrible things while he was incarcerated but you are right that his view was clouded and he made those statements intending to solidify his role as a sage guru just being persecuted by the system.
