Tex Watson admitted at trial, in his memoir and in parole hearings that he alone stabbed Sharon Tate. While Atkins and Krenwinkel were also found guilty of murder for all of the victims, Watson is acknowledged as the only one who actually stabbed Tate. She was slashed across her cheek (the first cut he made) and then stabbed in the chest. The baby wasn't stabbed (and definitely not cut out of her womb) and the coroner ruled that the baby likely died within just a few minutes of his mother. I completely agree that the killers acted with viciousness and a lack of empathy. But the reason I shared this particular article is to highlight the vulnerabilities these young women (and the men) had at the time they met Manson. It is with an effort to enlighten the public about ways to protect ourselves from cults, charlatans and traffickers, that I also included this perspective. It doesn't absolve anyone of their crimes, but if we can learn from them (particularly young people) isn't that a good thing?
