Emerging from my worst summer covering True Crime
Finally, after weeks of harassment, doxxing and threats, I finally think I see a bit of light.
Covering true crime can be immersive and sometimes dark, but this summer proved it could also be dangerous to those of us who write and cover crime stories.
I wrote last month about what happened, how a series of interviews with a confidential source put me not only in the hot seat, but made me a target for a vicious online campaign. As a result, I scaled back on my content at YouTube, spoke to law enforcement, and declined an interview. I also reached out to people who I had already been interviewed by, and asked them to shelve an upcoming video discussion.
